What are the dangers of using ultra high/ ultra low tones from an amplifier at ultra high volumes?
I'm thinking of using ultra high notes as a varmin repeller. Other than covering the dogs ears, what other precautions should i take? Can it hurt my ear drums even if i cant hear it? And i think it's bettween 5 and 22 khs, but what is the brown note supposed to be? Thanks
The Brown note is a myth (busted by Mythbusters) that was said to make people involuntarily loose control of their bowels. Sound is simply pressure waves, and the ear drum responds to pressure, even if you can't hear/detect the response. Given sufficient intensity, it will harm your ear drums. Commercial high-note repellants are of no worry. Nevertheless anything (incl. very high or low frequencies) is harmful at sufficiently extreme levels because the amplitude (oscillatory movement) will begin to shake things apart. The Mythbusters did demonstrate that the use of sufficient ear protection is sufficient for the largest scale operations. Take note of their work on the subject.
