Overview
Kashi™ GOLEAN is a ready-to-drink shakes (available in powder as well) that is claimed will keep you satisfied longer than other protein meal replacements due to the amount of fiber used in their recipe. The shakes come in chocolate and vanilla flavors that are said to be rich and creamy in texture. Although we wouldn’t recommend meal replacements as a dieting method, if you were going to replace a meal from time to time with a shake, the reputation of Kashi™ for tasty and healthier products may be a choice you want to consider.
Ingredients at a Glance
Filtered Water, Evaporated Cane Juice, Soy Protein Isolate, Gum Acacia, Cocoa (Processed With Alkali), Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Natural Flavors, Soy Lecithin, Sodium Citrate, and Carrageenan.
Ingredients in Focus
Whether from the cane or the beet, sugar is sugar and it bothers us that after water, the second in volume ingredient is cane juice (a.k.a. liquefied sugar from sugarcane).
Soy Protein Isolate is the only source of protein for the GOLEAN shake. It is a highly refined or purified form of soy protein with a minimum protein content of 90%. It is claimed that soy protein isolate may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and help prevent osteoporosis, some cancers and menopausal symptoms. The Kashi™ GOLEAN advertising recommends replacing one or two meals a day with the shake, but nothing is recommended about the lifestyle support that is required to experience successful weight loss.

• Kashi™ GOLEAN may be a convenient meal alternative.
Negatives
• The shake does not contain any ingredient other than fiber to assist in controlling the appetite.
• Weight loss from meal replacement diet plans is difficult to sustain.
• The body’s metabolism may become sluggish when fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains are eliminated from the diet.
