can I use sesame seed oil as a pesticide for my san pedro cactus?
I have red spider mites living in both of my san pedro cacti and they're affecting the growth of the larger one making the new growth much skinnier than it normally is. But i'm pretty sure that I've read that sesame seed oil is a good organic pesticide for san pedro. does anyone know for sure?
No I wouldn't do that at all. Plants need to breathe, and I imagine the oil would clog their pores. Spider mites are killed by insecticidal soap, and in a pinch diluted dish soap will work. Google it. I don't think the soap will damage the cactus, because she has a very thick waxy skin.
Neem oil is a great option for small, soft bodied pests like this. It is used medicinally on humans, and it is safe enough to brush your teeth with. You can buy it pre- mixed with water as an insecticide, but you can also get the medicinal oil and mix it with water in a spray bottle. There are many other organic pesticides- any will work.
Strong plants get fewer pest problems, and cacti don't usually have too many insect problems. I think the cactus may be slightly weakened. This is a plant whose spirit speaks to humans- ask it. It will speak in feelings or possibly dream images. If you have a bond with the plant, it will readily introduce you to San Pedro after the harvest.
