Why do new pistols come with a fire shell casing in a sealed envelope?
I bought a new Glock 26, and I noticed that it had a fired shell casing sealed in a small manila envelope in the hard case, along with the owner's manual. What is the purpose of the shell casing? Do I keep it? Do I take it to the police station? Or do I throw it in the trash?
You don't have to do anything with them. You can throw them away if you want to.

Some states now require that firearms manufacturers provide fired casings with every new handgun. The brass will be collected by the dealer and given to the state to be entered into an information database. If you are not in one of these states the dealer usually gives just gives them to the customer.
