Access permission in Linux????
M trying to modify LILO.CONF file in Linux Mandriva 10 and save it but it pops up with a window saying that I do not have the rights or permission to do so.
Can anyone please tell me how to change the access rights/permissions?
Please give me step by step procedure.
P.S. : I have root login and password & partition type for Linux is EXT 3.

It say that you cannot login with your root login details..it only logins with root password when it asks during any task where it requires to login as a root.
At the startup login screen it never logs in as ROOT.
Also please tell me wher to check the current permissions in Linux.
If you are logged in as root you should be able to modify it. You don't say what the current permissions are.
