how can i find out the max power my subs can handle?
i hav XPL kicker 12" subs but im not sure what size amp to put on them.
Your subs were produced back in the late 90's. With a max power of 500 watts I'd imagine the rms rating of them is 250 rms or thereabouts depending on your box type. Personally since they are old and they do deteriorate over time I wouldn't put 250 watts of rms power to each sub unless you wanted to blow them. If they are in flawless brand new condition I may consider it but otherwise take it easy on them unless you want some new ones. They appear to be foam surround so I'd really be careful as rubber surrounds tend to last better with conditions that we put them through...ie...sun, heat, humidity.....Foam don't hold up as well over time...If they are 8 ohm single voice coil subs you could connect all positives of the sub to + of amp and negatives to -of amp to present a 4 ohm load at the amp. Otherwise you'll need an amp that is 2 channel in which you would just hook up the +/- to each channel of the 2 channel amp.
