TMI Warning...Parasites?
I have been having stomach issues for a while now, so I went to my doctor, who now wants me to provide a stool sample.
She thinks I may have a parasite in my intestines.
Right now I am freaking right the hell out.
How serious could this be if I do have a parasite?
I am very hygienic ( I shower every morning, and bathe every night), I also wash my hands like crazy, and use hand sanitizer ( I keep a bottle of it in my purse).
Where could Ii have caught this?
My symptoms are:
Blood in stool (this was 2 months ago,but stopped ,ER doc said I had Gastroenteritis).
Mucous in stool
Alternating btw diarrhea and constipation
Sometimes when I pass stool, I get a tiny white turd
Stomach pains (lower abdomen)
I have blood tests for liver enzymes and Blood Cell count, both came back normal
Anyone else ever have this?
And what did it turn out to be?
I'm also nauseous a lot of the time, and have gained weight.
Perhaps your personal hygiene is not an issue in this case - think about where you have eaten out lately, or traveled to lately that was out of the ordinary for you. If you do have a parasite, it could have come from something that you ingested at some point in time. And there are times when parasites can be dormant for months or even a year or two, so if you've traveled out of the country during that time frame, be sure to let your doctor know. Also if you frequently go camping or walk barefoot you could have been exposed to certain types of parasites that could end up in your intestinal tract, so think about where and when you might have done this. On a positive note, once your doctor determines what it is that you have, the treatment you're given will be able to help rid you of it before it can cause you further problems.
