Is MSM (a type of sulfur) considered a sulfonamide?
I'm taking MSM and I'm also taking another vitamin that says not to take any sulfonamide with it since it will interfere with it.
I just want to make sure, because sulfur and sulfonamide sound almost the exact same.
The name sulfonamide is indeed derived from "sulfur", but a sulfonamide is a special sulfur-containing compound with the linkage -SO2NH2. Methylsulfonyl methane (MSM) has the formula (CH3)2SO2 and is not a sulfonamide.
