Would you risk driving this car?
I have a 1995 Chevy Lumina with 164,000 miles on it. In the last month my mom decided she will no longer be driving due to her health. She has a 2000 Buick Century with only 88,000 miles on it and she said I can have it. I lost the belt and needed a tensioner on the older car in the last week. Where I live we got snow and salt on the roads. I want to drive the older car for just a few months. I could breakdown with the older car but I have towing coverage up to 100 miles if I need it. I am deciding to just drive the older car and take my chances with it for now. Would you feel there is too much risk with the older car or would you take your chances driving it like me for a few months?
If the 1995 is in good running condition, using it as a winter vehicle makes sense. The belt tensioner is a common problem, and it does not indicate future problems with the vehicle.
I would drive it.
