Can I mix liquid pain medication for my cat in with his food or water?
he won't stay still long enough for me to give him it by the syringe
If you are talking about pain medicine that is intended for Human use, You can not use it on a cat. It can be fatal, but You probably know that.
If it is prescribed for Your cat and You put it in water, You will have no idea if it possibly took in the entire dose.
Calling the Vet should be simple to do, to make sure of the proper way to dispense the medicine. Even after hours You could call an Emergency Animal Hospital and they should be able to tell You how to give the medicine properly.
Other than that if it is intended for Your cat then putting it in a small amount of wet food on a paper plate, so that You can make sure they ingested all of it, should be the easiest way to give the medicine to You cat.
Also You have to be very careful using a syringe to provide anything liquid to Your cat. If you give too much at one time it can inhale the liquids into its lungs. You need to put the syringe into the side of its mouth, in between the teeth, and give a little at a time, and allow the Cat to swallow each time.
