help help alpha naphtol?
Today in my biochemistrey lab a very large drop of alpha naphtol dropped on my new nike white shoe and it would 'nt come out I tried clorax at home but nothing changed plz plz tell me how to take it off ,my shoe is brand new and it cost me 85 from my savings so HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!!
difficult... alpha naphthol is essentially insoluble in water. you could try rubbing alcohol...or something like hexane from the lab...that may work better. But problem is that whatever you do may remove the color from your shoes as well.
Your grocery story probably sells spot removers in the cleaning department or laundry department that may work better. maybe like one of those "magic" laundry sticks. Not the ones that contain bleach or tide. they probably wont work.. get one like this..

they work pretty well on most organic compounds. They decolorize the spot and aid in washing it away.. which you will probably have to do by using a damp paper towel...again, try it on a small spot first to see what happens to the color. All else fails, ask a dry cleaner...
FYI. some compounds react pretty violently with bleach. especially lab chemicals. You should be careful with that....
