Yes optimum nutrition is a good protein. Actually optimum protein now is actually quite full of whey isolate protein as compared to its content in the past.

Today, most of your good protein powders worth buying have a majority of whey isolates as opposed to in the past where they were mainly made of whey concentrates. The difference in a isolate and concentrate is that the isolate is a more pure form of whey and a concentrate contains more gunk like lactose, carbs, fat.

Here is the thing, you want to look at the ingredients of the protein powder that you chose and you want to see that whey isolate is the first ingredient mentioned. This means that by them being the first ingredient mentioned, that they are the majority protein in your powder.

I like optimum nutrition gold standard as a good beginner to intermediate protein. They do contain today a major amount of whey isolate. However, a better protein would contain a mix of whey protein with other slower digesting proteins like casein, and/or egg album. This combination of proteins allow the whey protein to absorb fast while the slower protein sources would cause a ripple effect of protein absorption over a longer period of time than just the quick digesting whey.

This time delay of protein absorption makes these protein powder valuable for use at any time of the day as well as around the workout itself. I myself use BSN's Syntha-6. It has 6 different protein sources, from slow digesting to fast digesting. It's one of the best tasting proteins around.

Hopes this helps!
