Is it true that glucosomine interferes with blood clotting?
I'm taking a glucosomine, chondrotin, MSM formula for arthritis and I've been told because glucosomine is an anti-inflammatory agent it can cause blood to not clot properly.
Glucosamine is actually an amino sugar with effects similar to a NSAID (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug) but it is not an anti-inflammatory agent.
It is not recommended for those taking "blood thinners" or antiplatelet medications . So, you should definitely not take it if you are on heparin, warfarin, plavix or ticlid unless your doctor recommended it.
Also, do not take it if you are a diabetic being treated with insulin or oral diabetic drugs.
Hopefully, since you have arthritis, you are taking this with the knowledge of your doctor. Glucosamine is often used for osteoarthritis.
