is to select the hair, eye and skin color of unborn babies might be at right now?
I did a case study on designer baby and I have read through information and no one makes it clear whether it is possible to choose things like hair, eye or skin color or things like IQ baby today (if this really happened 'today') or will it only can happen in the future? this is already happening today? or will in the future?
Certain characteristics, such as eye color and sex, can be selected today with current medical technology. Involving IVF, where the number of embryos removed from a mother and fertilized. Embryos fertilized and then tested to find a 'good' embryos (ie, one that has the desired properties.) That is the embryo implanted in the mother. There are limits. 1) child can not have the characteristics of the parents do not have. If mom and dad both have blue eyes children never would have brown eyes, because neither of his parents' eye genes chocolate for him to inherit. 2) we can only select a particular trait. We can choose the sex of the child because it is very easy to determine the sex of genetics, both sexes have an entirely different chromosome. I believe we can do the same with the eye because we have a good understanding of the gene that controls eye color. We can avoid properties recessive bad in the same way (which is the principal use of designer babies, to ensure that the two parents with a dangerous recessive genes do not have children with the disease). But we can only choose to do this because we understand how genetics affect these traits. We can not choose the 'smart' kids or 'handsome' children because we do not know how genetics affect intelligence or physical beauty, it's not as simple as making sure children have a 'smart' genes. 3) We can not be too picky. A woman has a number of eggs, and generally only a few of their eggs will be fertilized. You must select one egg to implant. If all you care about is controlling Child sex is easy, chances are you have a 'child' and exit at least one egg 'girl' one of all fertilized eggs. If you want your child male with blue eyes, brown hair, tan skin, left hand, and without any inherited negative it's unlikely that one of the 10 fertilized eggs you happen to have all these properties at the same time. One egg may have a boy with blue eyes and blond hair, maybe others are blue-eyed, brown-haired girl, etc. etc. If there are no eggs fertilized happen to have good qualities that you want will have to settle with an egg that most, but not all, of the gene you want, or repeat the entire long, expensive process.
