Essential fatty acids bad on low carb diet?
I read on a forum that EFA's need to be stored as fat to work. But on a low carb/zero diet EFA's wont get the chance to store as fat and be burned off as energy instead.
Is it true, wheres the evidence?
I really doubt there is proof of this one way or the other. Essential fatty acids like protein require sufficient fuel calories so they don't get relegated as fuel. The body will convert all dietary intake to fuel if inadequate calories are provided. I believe that only when excess calories are provided that the body "turns on" the regeneration factor. Inadequate calories force the body into survival mode, converting everything to fuel & catabolizing lean tissues to extract nutrition & to unencumber resource drains.
It is my understanding that fat cells take in & release fat continuously unless you are eating carbs which create triglycerides that "trap" fat in fat cells. Carbs >9g hour also trigger insulin which activates fat storage. The body won't release fat from fat cells unless the blood stream is clear of insulin.
They have been unable to study super high calorie, high fat diets because the body self limits protein & fat but one lean man did an experiment for a week. He was already on a high fat way of eating but he increased his normal 2500 daily calories to 4500 daily calories (2000 extra fat only calories) & he lost a pound, which wasn't regained when he dropped calorie levels back down to 2500 per day.
It is my understanding that excess dietary fat is used to fuel biological processes - it is not excreted but the biological processes can handle a lot of excess dietary fat. Carbs are extremely efficient & require very little processing for use or storage. My theory is that excess fat calories upregulate the metabolism to regeneration of body tissues.
No one knows exactly how the body works, that is why you have all these conflicting theories. So my theories are as valid as any one else's theories. I know personally I lost massive amounts of weight eating excess calories & any one can experience the same for themselves.
