Do eating complex carbs such as Oatmeal for breakfast cause sleepness after eating?
oatmeal does not provide quick energy and because its a complex carb it will cause tiredness. I tend to sleep hours right after eating.
I'm not sure where to begin on your statements.
The only 'quick energy' is from sugar/glucose, but you pay a price for it too. The spike in glycemic level will make you drowsy right after the initial sugar high. If you are adding sugar or maple syrup and other sweets to the oatmeal, you get the same effect.
Complex carbs are slow to be digested and so does not cause a spike in your glycemic level. Like every other foods, if you eat too much you will feel drowsy because your body is concentrating blood to the digestive system. Drowsiness occurs after any big meal, regardless of the food. Digestion of any large meal, whether it's a high-protein, a high-fat or a high-carbohydrate meal, all causes the familiar after-meal drowsiness."
