Does drinking lots of water help you shed weight?

I used to have an eating disorder and will only drink one glass of water a day, but I have tried to become healthier and stop starving themselves so that along with that I have to drink about 8 cups a day. Since I started doing this (which has a few days) I've noticed that I might lose some weight and some of my cellulite has appeared earlier the better ... do not drink much water do this? or am I just seeing things.
