Porphyrins count high - beta glucan connection?
I just had a skin analysis done showing a high count of 949 for porphyrins... internet research is telling me that the fact that I take beta glucans 1,3 may contrbute to the high number. How do I find out what a "safe" number is for porphyrins and can the high count be due solely to taking the beta glucans supplements?
Based on looking into this on wickipedia, I cannot get a number for you. I might suggest that the person who ordered your skin analysis would have some medical knowledge beyond what we can find on the web.
In my quite amateur opinion, it looks like if you have no other symptoms you are okay. The article in wickipedia says, "urine estimation of porphobilinogen (PBG) is the first step" to determine that prophyrins are too high, indicating a disorder called Porphyria.
I found an organization that promotes the use of beta glucans. Perhaps you can contact them for info. I've included them as the last link in my source list.
