What is an 'ionic lattice'?
I know that an ion is a charged atom...
And I also know that a lattice are atoms that repeatedly bond together to form vast arrays... an example being a diamond.
But what is an ionic lattice? I've never heard of it before :S I can just see in my textbook... 'metals are generally found in nature combined with non-metals as an ionic lattice (except native metals...'
The 'combined' thing sort of explains why it's a lattice... but what is an ionic lattice?
All answers are much appreciated!
Jonnie: the use of WTF arises perfectly in this situation.
An ionic lattice is what is formed from ionic bonding
most metals use ionic, rather than covalent, bonding. so this explains that.
