Antacid Calcium
Antacid Calcium

How could continued neautralization from antacids be more harmful than good?
i have the equation that:
CaCO3 + 2HCl --> CaCl2 + H2O + CO2
antacids are made primarily from CaCO3 and the HCl in stomach acid is about .37 M.
how could too much neautralization actually be harmful?
also, are antacids a good source of calcium?
thanks
They can be more harmful if you neutrilize too much acid in the stomach and the food is not broken down properly. then your body doesn't absorbe enough nutients or you could even end up with an obstruction in your bowel. Using antacids as a clacium supplement is not a good idea because that is not thier entended use. Using anything more than recomended or for a prolonged period could make you sick or cause lasting damage to your body. Please read the warnings and directions before use of any kind of medicine.
